Camp Salerno / Forward Operating Base Salerno, is located just north of Khowst. The facility was initially occupied by the 3rd Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, and they named it for the beach head that the 505th parachuted onto on September 14, 1943.
FOB Salerno is bigger than Orgun-E, but smaller than Kandahar.
Camp Salerno is in the province of Khost, close to the border with Pakistan, where hundreds of Taleban and al-Qaeda fighters are believed to be hiding
Hi Doc, I was surprised to hear from your office that you were on your way to Afghanistan. When I read your posts about the FOB you were being stationed at, I just had to share. Our son is active duty Army and is currently stationed at Ft. Bragg. He is with the 82nd Airborne, 1st Battalion, 505th PIR. It is soldiers previously serving with his unit that FOB Salerno was named by. What a small world!! Stay safe and we'll see you when you return!!!
